Grant The
Mary-Amelia Book Company has established a
“Kirby’s Ocean Friend Education Grant” (the "Grant"). There will be one Grant awarded to one child per
year. The Mary-Amelia Book Company will
deposit $1.00 per sale of each copy of the Kirby’s
Ocean Friend book in a separate account (the "Grant Account"). At the end of the company’s fiscal year end,
March 31st, the total amount of the Grant Account accrued to that date will be
awarded in the form of a cheque for deposit to a Registered Education Savings Plan(RESP)
registered in the name of a child who has suffered the death of a parent or legal
guardian, subject to the following rules.
Eligibility
The Grant is open to children of and between the ages of five (5) years and
twelve (12) years.
Children
must have lost a parent or legal guardian within the preceding twelve (12) months of the
Grant’s submission deadline.
The
surviving parent or legal guardian must provide proof of death of the deceased parent or
legal guardian by submitting a copy of that parent or legal guardian’s death
certificate. In the absence of a death certificate an original certificate of a funeral
home will be acceptable.
Employees
and relatives of employees of The Mary-Amelia Book Company are not eligible to apply for
the Grant.
If
at the end of any fiscal year end of the company, The Mary-Amelia Book Company decides to
discontinue awarding the Grant for the forthcoming fiscal year or in its entirety, it may,
in its sole discretion do so and notice to this effect will be posted on this or any
successor website (the "Website").
Submission
Children
must compose a one or two paragraph essay on the subject of “What My Parent Meant to
Me”.
Children
of and between the ages of five (5) and (7) may have a parent, legal guardian, or
immediate family member that is at least 18 years of age write the essay for the child but
the essay must be transcribed in the child’s own words.
Entries
must be submitted either by regular mail to Mary-Amelia Book Company or email to mary-ameliabookco@shaw.ca. If you would like to submit your entry by regular
mail, please email the Mary-Amelia Book Company for their address.
Entries
must be submitted on the child's behalf by the child's parent or legal guardian and must
include the child’s full legal name, age and the mailing address, phone number and
email address, if submitted by email or if such exists, of the parent or legal guardian
that is submitting the entry on behalf of the child.
Entries must be postmarked or sent by email no later than midnight on the 30th
day of April in each calendar year.
Grant
The
Mary-Amelia Book Company will judge the entries and one entry will be selected to receive
the Grant. Entries will be judged on the basis
of content and sentimental value. The decision
of the judges shall be final. Only one child will be awarded a “Kirby’s Ocean
Friend Grant” in each fiscal year of the company.
Children
awarded a “Kirby’s Ocean Friend Grant” will be notified by telephone,
regular mail, and email.
Children
who are awarded a “Kirby’s Ocean Friend Grant” must have a Registered
Education Savings Plan(RESP) opened in the child’s full legal name. This can be completed by a parent or legal
guardian. Proof of the Registered Education
Savings Plan(RESP) must be provided along with the name of the institution and the
Registered Education Savings Plan(RESP) number. The child granted the Award and his or her
parent or legal guardian must provide written consent to the child's name and submission
appearing on the Website in order to obtain the Award.
After
the parent or legal guardian has been notified that the child has been awarded the
“Kirby’s Ocean Friend Grant”, and evidence is provided to The Mary-Amelia
Book Company that a Registered Education Savings Plan(RESP) is or has been established in
the child’s name, and the consent referred to in the foregoing paragraph has been
provided, a cheque in the amount of the total amount of money deposited to the Grant
Account from the sale of each Kirby’s Ocean
Friend book that was sold in the company’s preceding fiscal year will be
deposited into the child’s RESP.
